André Ostertag is an absolute legend in Alsace. After training in Burgundy, André returned to his native Alsace with numerous goals in mind: lower yields, farm responsibly, and introduce biodynamic principles to the vineyards. Unlike other vignerons in Alsace, André seeks to showcase terroir over varietal typicity. To do this, he created his own ‘categories’ for labelling his wines: Vins de Fruit (fruit character expressive), Vins de Pierre (vineyard site expressive), and Vin de Temps (wines that rely on time and weather to develop botrytis). ‘Clos Mathis’ is a ripe and racy varietal Riesling marked by flavors of tart white peach, pithy citrus, saline, and dew. Energetic and bright, this benchmark bottle is an absolute must for Riesling lovers.
